Gov. Quinn Signs Law Banning Hand-held Cell Phone Use While Driving
Illinois Governor Pat Quinn has signed two laws recently aimed at reducing the number of accidents caused by distracted drivers, which will be effective January 1, 2014.
One law will prohibit the use of hand-held cell phones and all hand-held electronic devices while driving on Illinois roads and the second law increases the penalties where any use of a hand-held cell phone or electronic device while driving is the cause of an accident or fatality.
Motorists can talk on their phones ONLY if they use hands-free technology to conduct their conversations. Driving while using hand-held cell phones and electronic devices will be prohibited effective the 1st of January.
