Police Department - Traffic
Truck Enforcement
The North Aurora Police Department currently has five officers from the traffic
and patrol divisions that are certified by the State of Illinois as Truck Enforcement Officers. The officers enforce the laws that regulate weight limitations and equipment on commercial motor vehicles. The traffic officer uses a specialty vehicle which is equipped with four portable scales. This enables officers to weigh suspected overweight trucks at the location in which they are stopped. The enforcement of overweight trucks helps:
- Reduce the number of overweight commercial vehicles on roadways in the Village.
- Contribute to reducing costly roadway damage.
- Increases the safety of other drivers.
- The Illinois Department of Transportation data shows that one overweight truck causes the same amount of damage to the roadway at 9,600 passenger cars.
The North Aurora Police Department does have an ordinance that will allow the movement of overweight and over-dimension commercial vehicles on its roadways. These movements are only allowed after the owner of the commercial motor vehicle pays a set fee to purchase a special permit. This permit can be accessed by clicking on the Overweight Truck Permit Form.
