Breaks / Leaks


You can report watermain breaks 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays, by calling (630) 897-2662 ext 223 during business hours or (630) 897-8705 after hours.


Watermain Breaks

Signs of a broken watermain are water running down the street and buckled pavement. Main breaks may leave specific areas without water. Based on the size of the main pipeline break and time required to locate and mark utilities, residents may experience delays in service as crews repair breaks and restore water service.

We encourage you to call to notify the Water Division, and don't assume your neighbor will make the call. We would rather receive multiple reports about a suspected problem than no calls at all.


Water Leaks

Leaks are responsible for about 14 percent of wasted water.  If you experience an unusually high water bill, you may have a leak. In the event a break or leak develops in the water service pipe, the North Aurora Water Division is responsible for repair if such leak is located on the Village's side of the stop box (between the center of the stop box and the watermain), and the meter itself. The customer shall be responsible for the repair of any leaks in the service line on the customer's side of the stop box (between the center of the stop box and the water meter location). In addition, the customer and/or property owner is responsible for the service line behind the meter and the rest of the property's plumbing.
